Australia Travel thread for Guru. Forbidden to mention any other places.

This was the nearest thing I could find to a travel thread, so hope OK to hijack.

We're taking Little Miss BW to Paris in June for a couple of days of sightseeing and a surprise gig. I last went there in 2009 to get engaged and certainly don't intend to spend here what I did then on hotel. I'm after a cheap and cheerful place to dump suitcases and sleep as we'll be out most of the time - a French equivalent of Premier Inn or something is fine.

Anyone got any recommendations in Paris of this kind of accommodation?

We stayed at the Ibis Paris Eiffel Tower when we were there for Rugby world cup in October.

It was perfectly fine, no idea how much it costs as was part of package, it was close to a couple of Metro lines to get around easily.

Wildly incorrect, it seems.

(Albeit they amusingly assume it’s Australia fans buying the tickets.. I suspect they are a comfortable minority).

Fortunately I did get a ticket where I wanted one. Very fucking expensive. I don’t understand Rugby but I thoroughly enjoyed the two tests I’ve been to down here.. in the absence of any notion of proper football games/crowds.. it’s as good as we get.

Out of interest how much?

Twickenham tickets are c£200 (top tickets) these days so I'd be expecting more than that for Lions.

I met John Eales at the world cup last year, seemed a very nice guy.

$650, which, apparently is about £330. It looks like even the ‘cheap’ seats up in the sky are around $360 (£180). If anyone is keeping tabs on the highest ever gate receipts for a spot of rugger, one assumes this game will be it.

Nah, world cup final tickets at Twickenham top price were £750.
