I don’t go to the theatre as often as I should, but last night I saw The Last Stand of Mrs Mary Whitehouse at the Playhouse. Really good and one of the few I’ve been at where the actors got a standing ovation at the end. Maxine Peake is awesome as Mrs W. It’s about her battle against Gay News back in the 70s, if you’re interested. Funny, sad and thoughtful. The Nottingham run is finishing this week but maybe it’ll appear somewhere else. Worth a look.

Talking to myself on this thread perhaps, but I'm off to see John Cooper Clarke tonight. No idea what to expect apart from some poems. Probably.

I find this thread title creepy. What about my stuff are you particularly interested in?

Bumming jokes aren't funny anymore or cross dressing jokes, or Hitler jokes and nonce jokes are right out, sorry. I, for one, will miss gay week but these are the times we live in I'm afraid. But one day, should I see gay Hitler impersonator in a skirt getting nicked outside a school I will allow myself a little chuckle.

One of the reasons I'm keen to move back to a larger city in the coming years is that I do miss the Theatre, we have a really good local theatre close by but its not even comparable to anything in the west end.

    There's a lot of Hitler impersonators these days...and a lot of nonce's.

Your giggling odds are better than they used to be.

Decreased chances of fascist nonce's being held to account though...so maybe not.

I think the last (and only) time I saw JCC live was almost exactly 40 years ago. I hope that you enjoy it more than I did. Maybe he's got better*?

    * Perhaps as a pissed up teenager I wasn't the ideal appreciator of his oeuvre at the time.

Pretty sure he's still just going to be angry and spitty. It's not you.

He was actually very good. Funny, perceptive, irreverent, full of energy. Pretty good going for a 75 year old. He had two other poets with him and I enjoyed their stuff too. First time I’ve ever been to a poetry thing and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d go again, as would Mrs Charlie. The half time exit strategy we’d planned if it didn’t work out wasn’t needed.

We saw JCC supporting Squeeze years ago. As he opened with 'some cunt dropped the n word' there was quite an exodus of people of a certain age towards the bar.
