Quick! Emergency measures! More tourism to Antarctica to keep cool!
So Jealous...

So, the misinformation in the USA driven by Russians and perpetuated by Right wing trolls has rednecks shooting at Bulldozers because they believe that they are there to mow down houses and build a lithium mine amongst other things and that Kamala is giving money to Lebanon not to Hurricane victims. The news and government have reported $140 million has already been allocated for Helene victims and yet people are seeing FEMA as the enemy. You couldn't make this shit up.
My wife was in Ashville Carolina working a new job and wasn't sure if she was to get paid as it was unclear after the 32 inches of rain and hurricane force winds if the house she worked on (she has a new gig staging and photographing houses ready to join the Air BnB and VRBO market) was still there after the storms. It turns out it is but all the roads have washed away and it being on a mountain has completely stranded it. It's a fucking mess but she managed to get out just before all hell hit the fan.
Now Milton is coming down on Florida and the general consensus is that the government has run out of money so they won't get help anyway so some people are refusing to leave. Yet, Republicans believe climate change/global warming is not real. Where did all the sane people go? Some of the misinformation is leaking up here and I have clients who are starting to mouth this bullshit too. Oh boy, I think everyone is fucked.
I think Putin must be laughing...
Chicago: Watching the world drown.
This Tampa storm looks apocalyptic and genuinely terrifying if the forecasting is anywhere close to accurate.
My friends in Sarasota are refusing to leave. They have the Penthouse on a 10 year old construction (of which they are suing the builders (sounds familiar???) and believe they can ride it out quoting that the windows are designed to withstand 170mph winds. Considering that the builders have lied about some stuff in their building this is a huge risk to take considering the winds could hit 155.
I told them to come stay with us for three weeks as we have five bedrooms and when we get sick of each other then they can return. They declined saying that they wanted to defend their place from being robbed. Pretty sure with a 15 foot storm surge no-one will be able to get in and out of the building so it's a pretty weak excuse. I would have accepted. "You smell", but defending the place? Former Chicagoans going redneck. Who would have thunk it. Studid sunshine.
Chicago: Keeping an eye on the news.
Work colleague lives in Tampa and has decided to stay. For a smart educated woman who works in an industry specialising in these kind of events I can only presume she knows what she's doing. But seems like a silly idea to me.
Even if your building, and you survive, it could be carnage all around, flood water, electrical fires, gas leaks, explosions. If I'm there, I'm outa there.
All seems a bit of a damp squib.

Insert modern day Britain infrastructure going to shit under 14 years of corrupt Russian sponsored nefarious Tory iron fist rule comment / gag here.

Yeah that was my takeaway from the news this morning. Downgraded to Cat 1 as soon as it hit land. The "crazy" videos on the BBC website just show a few trees bending a bit.
Can’t have been that bad. Crazy Lt Dan, the guy that lives in a small boat in Tampa bay harbour has survived.
Got a link?
Saw a vid on Twitter earlier of him grinning like a toothless loon on his boat.
He's been the talk of our whatsapp group.
