To be clear: I am not and have never been a jogger, and I have never defended or encourage jogging.

Did you used to sprint your recovery runs?
No, but recovery runs are not jogging. Jogging is going out for a gentle trot with no particular pace, distance or purpose in mind, often interspersed with a stop or two for coffee and cake.
It's amusing that Chicago always used to give me shit about running and how I should be doing interval training, when I was running intervals and fartleks once or twice a week with a specific goal, and now here he is outside running while I'm lifting four times a week. Looking forward to him telling me how I'm wasting my time in the gym when I should be out running.
I am in a gym 6 days a week. I want to go back to playing football. I have very strong muscles but meniscus/cartilage damage due to 46+ years of football.
The best way to get fit is to just go and play scrimmage/pick up games. I know all the players. The standard is pretty high. I just don’t trust my knees will hold up so I am doing sprints (more fun in the cold) and seeing how it’s going. Not running long distances.
Weights are specifically for health. They allowed me to play an extra 20 years. But now I just want to play with the boys and this is a means to an end until I sack up and just go for it and embarrass myself. I work out with weights a lot. Strength isn’t the issue. In this cold snap (not so cold recently afternoon-30f when I was running around basically naked. That was fun!) is the best time to get back into it as only the hardiest players are running around outside this time of year. My kind of people.
The heat when it comes will keep me off the pitch because on turf it is unbearable. I also like drinking bourbon and reading. So trying to keep up the football isn’t as paramount as it once was but hanging with the boys is always fun and most of the time I am working.
Chicago: Retiring in 9 years.
Hold on. This doesn't sound too bad. Can you also do it while going past pubs. On your bike?
I seriously toyed with drawing a line under my "playing career". Knees couldn't handle my weight.....but losing the weight, has made it more viable, and I can move a bit. Now tentatively hoping to make it to 60. don't think I could restart after a significant layoff......loss of the muscles and flexibility of movement is very rapid at my age. The lock downs nearly did for me, and I was plagued by injury in the period where things were on/off.
After chasing sunsets one of life's simple joys is playing with the boys.
Looks like I might be getting the snow I wanted. Snow storm incoming tomorrow, on the day we get a train to Boston. This could be fun.
A foot of snow coming during tomorrow afternoon for Boston just as we arrive there and then have to get to Salem.
Can’t exactly complain. Tbh as long as we can get to our hotel in Salem tomorrow I’ll be quite happy with some snow. Glad I packed warm socks.
Good luck with that, just be prepared if there is as much snow as being predicted Amtrak are pretty good at cancelling trains.
They have already announced a couple of cancellations
Cheers, ours isn’t on that list (yet) - good job we booked a wide awake club train.
The early bird catches the worm.
On the train to Boston. It’s snowing but looks like 6” rather than a foot as the storm has moved south.
It’s very pretty in Connecticut. Having a can of wife beater on the train as I admire the snowy view.
What coffee are they serving?
I haven’t had any coffee because I don’t want to use the train toilets for a big, smelly shite.
Hang on.You're going from NY to Boston on a train via Conneticut?
EDIT Ignore that. I was having a spaz. As you were.
