Player gets ball by two of our star midfielders tackling each other like keystone cops, then one trying to resurrect the situation by rugby tackling a Bournemouth player to no avail, then defenders back off and off and off (would've backed off into the sea if he'd kept going) allowing loads of time and space for striker to pick his spot.

    Is what I saw!

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:04 p.m.

That's what I said. Broken play then luckily twatted it right in the corner.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:04 p.m.

We lost to a very good side. We were crap and made mistakes.

We aren't going to stay up or go down because of what happens at Bournemouth away

I'm happy to give Dyche more time to help us find what we had last year.

The whole playing it around at the back thing, isn't that supposed to be to continue to pass forwards up the pitch exploiting space as you suck the opposition in?

We seem to pass it around a bit in our defensive quarter of the pitch, than mostly lump it forward? Which seems like it would be better done without the passing around the back, with the midfield and defense higher up the pitch, closer to the point the ball is lumped to to compete for it/second ball, rather than being mainly in the third of the pitch nearest our goal, miles from the attacker trying to compete for the lumped ball.

I'm sure I am missing some tactical nuance that we are executing, but I'm not sure what.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:23 p.m.

I don't think anybody (sane) is saying sack the guy.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:24 p.m.

That's not going to happen. We've changed, and more importantly the league has changed...to more both embrace and counteract the things that made us successful, at the same time that we made a move (squad wise) to go Spanish Australian dancing.

I'm still waiting for feedback on why this squad is so good, by the way. We've upgraded nothing defensively, lost our major threat, benched our top scorer, and brought in players who don't look like solving any problems soon, and are largely not ready to start. Meanwhile the balance has gone, along with the ability to exploit the spaces we were creating, the defence has lost it's confidence, and the keeper has gone flappy.

Dig in lads. It's going to be a long season.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:34 p.m.

Because it cost a lot and ergo must be good?

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:42 p.m.

I can only conclude that is largely the assumption. If it's not that I could do with some help seeing the outstanding attributes that some of these players have, that justify those high price tags, and overcome the disadvantage of having all the strength and athleticism of a pre-pubescent girl (relative to the level).

  • 26 Oct 2025, 8:59 p.m.

The first one is not starting for Newcastle - and interestingly I've seen "the best fans in the world" bemoaning the standard of his crossing - lightning quick, but lacks a consistent end product.
The second one is injured. (on international duty)

But squad wise, we are reaping what the owner has sowed (he is someone who firmly believes that more expensive = better).
Similar to Nuno and Adama Traore v Oscar Hutchinson, Cooper really wanted Antoine Semenyo, but the owner signed Emmanuel Dennis...
It's fun that Edu is getting blamed for everything that is wrong. I've been told by more than one person close to the club that every major decision - and a lot of the minor ones - are made by the owner.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 9:15 p.m.

I don't really give a shit what the barcodes do with him, as I didn't care about his end product with us*. The point is that his strength and movement, and where we played him.... and the threat that presented to the opposition completely transformed the dynamics of their midfield. Both in defence, but also in attack because of the spectre of transition. If they covered him, their attack was narrower, and MGW and CHO could run when we got the ball. If they didn't, he could run..... And while that happened wood was totally free to isolate the CH's.

    * You would have to be out of your mind to complain about his end product for us. It was outstanding.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 9:46 p.m.

We looked utterly fucked. Didn't kick to our people. Didn't run well. Didn't stand in the right places. Not one thing about that game was good.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 10:24 p.m.

I didn't mean sack him, I meant give him more time to show that he can improve us before I resign myself to relegation.

  • 26 Oct 2025, 11:53 p.m.

I didn't, but it sounded like we really needed to rest some players, at the very least. Dyche understandably picking his "best team", after we had to do the same on Thursday, but nah.
Didn't expect anything from the game. Only a little disappointed. And yes, it's probably easier because I didn't watch.

Is it good if our manager also believes Barry Girdles nonsense?

  • 27 Oct 2025, 11:22 a.m.

We’d have lost that whoever we had put out. May as well have forfeited it to save the travel.

  • 27 Oct 2025, 11:42 a.m.

That's not an acceptable attitude for the owner, and frankly for me, given we finished in the top 10 last season and have spent about £150m on transfers.

  • 27 Oct 2025, 12:09 p.m.

There's a tendency to believe that because of outcome A, alternative Z would have been better. This type of thinking is largely nonsense. It's more likely that the manager made the decision of whom to start because he believed them to be 'better' than the alternative(s). Who are we identifying as the magic bullet(s) that would have changed the outcome? Is there no value in our better players getting used to playing midweek and weekend? I personally would prefer to see weakening changes during european games, given the standard is broadly lower. It doesn't appear that anyone suffered tired and shagged out related injury.

So what's the problem? (I know it's that we lost, so that we need to lash out.)

I think it's better to keep focused on actual observable evidence, and not create a false narrative that 'proves' that someone else is in the wrong. As a general piece of advice that is.

We were terrible because we were knackered and they bullied us. Dyche tried to correct that in the second half but by then the Muff were in second or third gear.

I understand he wanted to field a winning team but the energy wasn't there. During our first few seasons back we scrapped. I would have had a scrapping team with a higher press. They did it to us and we had nothing in exchange.

What is concerning is that we seem to have no idea to get up the field to actually have an attempt to score. Taiwo was certainly more effective than Jesus but he was cutting a lone furrow up there. We were always likely to lose (because they have our number) but we were limp and knackered. I was fielding the idea before the game of a nasty midfield with Murillo anchoring it and Jair stepping into the Murillo mold next to Milenkovic. Would it have been a disaster? Not so sure. Could have been. But Dom and Yatesy pushing and puilling in there and up for the scrap maybe we could have got something out of it.

I think Tricky is right. I am guessing that against Stum Graz we should be trying some of the others if it will help our 'Ship campaign.

Nuno fucked us. Ange Fucked us by being rubbish. Sean has a massive job on. I think he is the best one for it at the moment. The problem is that we really really have to start picking up points. If it is ugly but effective so be it. it might have to be. At least he wasn't playing Morato at Left back...
