It was. But it’s that bit harder not to be ropey when facing a team who seems comfortable running at you, around you, and in behind you… y’know… a team who’s not only thought about how to score, but actually thought of more than one way to do it.

When good teams make our defence look like that we give them credit for it.

Playing like that won’t always work. Obviously. but I sure wish we’d tried it against Luton and Palace.

    "We" really don't.
A little from column a and a little from column b, I reckon. You can't tell if a defence is going to be ropey if you don't pressure it, and we did.

So, I reckon another 5 points is probably enough, 8 almost certainly.

Possibly, but we are a long way from safe. Our away form is so poor that even trips to Everton, Sheffield United and Burnley are far from nailed-on points - especially with them all targeting Forest at home as must-win.

That leaves us trying to take something from home games with Wolves, Manchester City and Chelsea. I think Spurs on Sunday is in the 'free hit' category.

I'm not convinced five will be enough but we'll know more after the Everton decision later this week.

I'm not even thinking about Everton. I just think a point a game is going to be a stretch for Luton (they have 22 from 30, so far), 11 nearly impossible (half their points so far in their last 8 games?). And we are 5 goals better, so they'd probably need 9 to beat our 5.

We aren't safe, until we are safe. This is the premier league, every game is tough.

5 will be enough, unless any of them end up getting taken away as a result of the PSR appeal decision being worse for us than the first instance decision.

Is it time for me to bleat on about mathematical certainty yet?

With potential appeals for the Evs and stuffs I don’t think we can have mathematical certainty this season can we? At least for the 3rd from bottom slot.

I think covered by my "we aren't safe, until we are safe". Losing the next seven, while unlikely, is within the range of plausible outcomes.

Still reasonable to speculate about how many points it might take.

Do we hope both SheffU and Burnley are down by the time we play them so that the chances of winning are a bit higher and they are not “fighting for their lives” [sic]

  • Simonhelp_outline

But maybe their play will improve “once the pressure is off”.

Ex-player on the pitch at half-time (very briefly) was Paul Evans. The lad who sits next to me (and has for well over a decade) said he'd never heard of him. Did some quick maths and realised he wasn't born when Evans signed. I'm so old.

Had this weird dream that Forest played well and won last night,
