...because this board works using markdown (specifically this python implementation of the reference syntax). Markdown usage is a specific choice - and indeed was a dealbreaker for me when choosing suitable forum software. Markdown is designed to be easy to write, and easy to read...and has been specifically chosen because of it's suitability for ease of writing and the simplicity and portability of an editor based on it.

in markdown # means "heading 1". So the # tags tell the board it's a heading, and to format that line accordingly.

If you want to use markdown formatting characters in a different context, then you need to escape them first with a '\'

    So for a heading:
    #tag

    for a # character:
    \#

....and if you look at the pure text of this post, you can see how that is achieved.

Aina meeting the team in Spain this evening for a medical (Percy)

Elanga having a medical at the WFCG this weekend (Collomosse)

    Henderson talks "progressing well" (Collomosse)

Aina is Nigerian, and we're apparently also interested in Jakobs (Senegal LB) according to Paul Taylor.

Have we forgotten about AFCON? Or intending to move 1 or 2 out? Dennis seems a given.

Aina hasn't played for Nigeria since 2019, so it seems unlikely he'd be called up unless he was playing out of his skin for us in the first half of the season.

I get the impression he's annoyingly happy in Nottm and won't be pushed out the door unfortunately.

Elanga comes with an ace chant, apparently.

    Rhythm is a dancer
    Anthony Elanga
You won't stop him if you dare
    He came from Scandinavia
    He's United's [Forest's] saviour
    Scoring goals from everywhere
    Wo-oah
    It's Elanga
    Wo-oah
You should see him in the air
    Wo-oah
    It's Elanga
    Wo-ooooooooah

Lyrics feel like they're trying a bit hard, but his name scans beautifully into the song.

Indeed. Frequently spotted whistling the sun has got his hat on and clicking his heels whilst pottering around the Victoria centre.

Think I need to hear it to "hear" it properly

Ah, good news. Bit surprised by that, but my knowledge of Nigerian full-backs is lacking. Maybe they have better.

Hmm. Wiki may have lied to me, it looks like he played in AFCON qualifying matches last year. Bright Osayi-Samuel has played the last couple of games at right back, but I don't know if that's because Aina was injured.

My knowledge of Nigerian full backs is at best the same as yours. Everything I know about them has been learned in the last half hour, and some of it has already been proven wrong.

Also - why are we signing a right back? - Seems not a position we are short on

Uhh. Because the club think he will improve the squad, maybe?

Plus he’s young, & the mighty Angry Serge is not - and Neco looks a decent wing back (& can play either side) but less decent out-and-out right back.

    Not really rocket science.

I think this guy plays left too.

This is better (to the rhythm is a dancer tune)

    Antony Elanga,
    He's a real banger,
He can kick it with his feet,
    Antony Elanga,
    He's no goal hanger,
And my name's not fucking Pete.

Maybe we could all get together and sing and dance it together before the Arsenal game?

    Could catch on.

We're going to be fast up front next year anyway if Johnson does stay because Elanga is about as fast as he is, and fast forwards are always good if you're the kind of team that plays on the backfoot for 80% of the game with a couple of breaks.

Here are some of his best bits
