One thing I hadn't thought about until it was mentioned on Garibaldi Red is how many of our central defenders are out of contract next summer.
I'd viewed it as Niakhate, Felipe, Worrall, Boly, McKenna covered by Kouyate and Aurier if there was an emergency or we wanted to try something different. But of those seven only Niakhate isn't out of contract next summer (Cook is also in that position). Now I expect Worrall to extend but, maybe, if Mckenna is thinking he doesn't fancy signing up for longer when he's probably 5th out of 5, it makes sense to get some cash in and might explain why we would be interested in Coady (was still only 30 in May).
