    Indeed.

I've heard the term alot so googled it recently. The explanation was a full back who moves into midfield when you're in possession.

I'm not sure about the inverted bit. Does it have to be someone who is playing on the wrong flank? i.e. would Serge be an inverted full back if we played him at LB but then he moved into more of a central midfield role when we've got the ball?

    Brazilian Alert!

    Chicago: Thinking of waxing.

Ps: In case you cannot read Portuguese the bloke is an 18 year old called Giovani

I assumed* that it was a full-back who, to compensate for their weakness in the air ('at the back stick'), played while doing a constant handstand to put their feet in the heading position. As would have benefited, for example, Chris Gunter.

I agree its not a great descriptive term.

I assume the use of 'inverted' is meant to imply coming inside in a deeper position, rather than overlapping in a higher position.

I played this position in the later years of my eleven a side 'career'. Nobody suggested that I was an inverted full-back. At that time the preferred description was "fucking shit and can't run".

    * No I didn't.

No offence but I can’t see you as a full back at any time let alone someone who could run into midfield when we had possession. Maybe you were a skinny little whippet when you were youngster and you fell prey to the beer monster but I am pretty sure you would be a hold up centre forward or a centre back who likes kicking people.

We will discuss this when I am over for a beer and the comic book hostage negotiations.

We should be getting the house (it’s been back and forth like a cunt) which would allow the liberation of the 2000ads.

    Chicago: Keeping the line open.

It feels like after one season in the Premier League we are getting carried away. Although, that feels very Marinakis too to be fair.

I saw somewhere recently a suggestion of 12 new players in and 25 out this summer and the sad thing was you could see it.

Unnecessary to use the words ‘at that time’, it’s ongoing (allegedly)

  • 26 May 2023, 7:39 p.m.

Almost. He was an amalgamation of the two; a hold up centre back.

  • 26 May 2023, 7:41 p.m.

I am no longer playing that role. My role currently is "fucking stay in the middle tricky".

He is not there to pass, he's there to influence games by disrupting the opposition's rhythm, driving the team forwards, rallying the crowd, winding people up, putting his foot in, cancelling better quality opposition players out by getting into bilateral battles with them, bullying defensive players to create space for our better attacking players, using his bulk in both boxes and and generally being a pain in the arse. He's excellent and when he works out how to add goals to all that, as he eventually did in the championship, he will be even more excellent.

Thanks for explaining Ryan Yates to me. I hadn’t quite understood.

  • 26 May 2023, 8:15 p.m.

Well that would explain how you arrived at your view that he was woeful.

  • 26 May 2023, 8:23 p.m.

    Jefferson Lerma anybody?

Out of contract at the 'Muff (also player of the year) and we showed interest in him in January.

    An upgrade on Remo Freudster?

    Chicago: Not being very neutral.

If you don’t think he was woeful at the beginning of the season, then you were watching different games to me.

I'm presuming jamesob is Jamso from The Other Place, because reasons. And not James O'Brien.
