TBF, I got the impression that Shelvey left Newcastle because he wanted playing time. If SSC tells him he's not getting it here, he might be motivated to move.

Wood probably still has a role.

If SSC can work out how to use him without unbalancing things, he’s worth keeping if he taps it in against the (eventual) league winners again

He should be a good plan B, but that isn't what happened at all.
And it doesn't really matter how much Shelvey wants first team football if he won't take a pay cut, and why should he?

Henderson is as good as we could get in goal. But his injury concerns me and we need better back up than what we have

We will need to spend another £100m but will have to buy well as £45m of that could go on Lodi and Henderson.

Not sure O’Briens career here is done just yet.

I assume staying up triggers another extension for Harry Arter?

    Best. Agent. Ever.

Overall the current regime has been quite good at moving people on when things haven’t worked out, and not especially concerned about the cost. They haven’t generally paid out contracts (See Harry Arter) but where someone is wanted elsewhere we usually make it happen… so if the likes of Dennis, Shelvey, Wood, Freuler etc are deemed not required, I think they will go because people will want them and they will want to play (and I can see the manager being happy to keep some of those guys around even though they haven’t lived up to expectations.

I don’t see Lingard staying because he’s going to have offers worth a lot more to him than he’s worth to us. I am sad we didn’t get to see him contribute much on the pitch.. he seems like a great guy who has been a really positive, if expensive, guy to have around. No regrets over that signing. Sometimes things don’t work out, but I can’t fault the way he appears to have applied and conducted himself.

I see supporting roles for O’Brien and Surridge, but would understand if they didn’t. Season loans to high-end champ clubs would be my preference if we aren’t in each-others immediate plans.

Dean Henderson.. unless his injury is one that casts a doubt over his ability to play complete seasons I’m future, he’s a big ‘yes please’ if ManYoo aren’t silly about it.

Hopefully incomings will tilt towards below-peak aged players with a PL pedigree. They are expensive, but we shouldn’t be signing many. With all due respect to the midfield 3 who’ve been superb since they got together, a premium buy in there seems an obvious priority, as does direct competition for Awonyi’s spot. I’ll happily take Lodi at the right price if he wants to stay, if not.. I’m naturally nervous about going into a season relying on Richards to come good or Toffo to be at the level need to be first choice.

I wouldn’t be spending big to add centre-back options, but it’s never a bad place to upgrade if a good opportunity comes up. I’d like us to wait until Maguire has found a new club before we start looking though.. just in case.

I quite like Luke Ayling, not sure we need another RB though

Not with Djed coming home as well.

  • 21 May 2023, 3:09 p.m.

Of course it’s bonkers that is why I brought it up. Especially when we are probably going to sign Conor Gallagher now.

Another bonkers suggestion would be Jarrod Bowen who is ace. Pity there is no chance of that happening either.

    Chicago: attacking the block.

That Mbappe is a useful player, as well. Foden’s mostly a backup at the moment, maybe he wants regular football?

  • 21 May 2023, 3:17 p.m.

You are a very silly man.

The mad Greek is rich but not that rich.

    Chicago: Money doper.

  • 21 May 2023, 3:19 p.m.

    You started it.

  • 21 May 2023, 4:28 p.m.

Taiwo, Niakhate, Mangala and Richards were all recruited from the Bundesliga. That's three successful signings and a fourth who is untested due to injury, but may yet DAJFU. I'm hoping we go hunting in Germany again over the summer.

    Another mental one.

    Tammy Abraham.

I suspect he will go to villa or sadly Everton (assuming they can get away with wage doping again)….

I would also be happy with Emile smith Rowe who also played for Coops.

Watching the citeh/chel-wee game. The only midfield player who looks good for the London side is Ruben loftus Cheeks who actually would also be a good fit.

Chelsea are fcuked in the summer if they don’t sell.

Chicago: Robbing from the rich to pay the poor.

  • 21 May 2023, 6:15 p.m.

Tammy Abraham is pretty realistic by your standards.
