Veliz (the striker we were allegedly interested in) is going to Spurs.
Yeah we pissed around with the release clause and Spuds jumped in and paid the whole thing. I am wondering if we have any money? Seems stupid to haggle over a couple of million euros.
We are very annoying this off season.
Chicago: Broke as houses.
Haven’t seen any decent links with him but @tim_vickery who seems a South America football expert says he doesn’t think he will be any good as that type of Argentinian striker has constantly failed in the PL.
Vickery does seem to know his stuff. Interestingly, in January I heard a discussion with him (Athletic podcast, I think) about our Brazilian signings. He said Felipe & Danilo would cope with and gradually thrive in the Premier League, Lodi might take time to settle but had quality and Scarpa could go either way. At the time of writing, that’s pretty much spot on.
As for Veliz, the piece I read said he is promising but far from the finished article, and that it’s probable that Spurs will loan him back to River Plate for at least half of the coming season. If that was the deal, not a great use of our money, Chic (though I agree that our close season has not yet been inspiring).
Romano exclusive: 25M euro bid sent to Roma for a Brazilian centre-half, Roger Ibanez.
Left footer which, with Niakhate’s injury, is probably a good idea.
Apparently Roma are desperate for cash. A quick read of the comments suggests that he's quick and good on the ball, prone to the odd rick, and has huge potential to get even better. He's only 24, so he seems to fit the bill for our preferred style of signing.
Hope SSC has spent the summer doing his Rosetta Stone Portuguese course.
Well looks like it is going to be Matt Turner with injured Henderson later in window.
I think there's likely to be a better value / quality ratio in world footballer when looking for a goalkeeper than an expensive Arsenal reserve. Arsenal fans seem to speak warmly of him and think he is an OK shot-stopper, however but not much else. They aren't in tears but wish him well.
Hopefully he is better than Hennessey and Horvath.
I'd put Horvath ahead of Hennessey (just). And the USMNT (FFS) put Turner ahead of Horvath, so...
You'd hope Turner would be better than Hennessey and Horvath considering he's apparently going to cost the thick end of 10 million quid.
It's a hard no from me. Simply because he looks too much like Richard Keogh for my liking.
Despite the talk of planning and patience, we seem to have grabbed the first available keeper after all.
I know nothing about him.
He appears to have never played a league game for Arsenal, and the highest domestic league he has played in is MLS which is below championship standard. Beyond that it's a few Europe league cameos and internationals.
Depends on where we end up come 1 Sep. If we’ve signed Henderson (or A.N.Other keeper) as well, on the basis that we’re confident he’ll be fit in due course, then I have no great problem with signing Turner to provide competition. If Turner is the only keeper we sign, then it feels like a gamble given the back-up we have.
With respect, a fan saying “I haven’t heard of him” isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker when it comes signings; who can honestly say they’d heard about Danilo before he signed? He hasn’t turned out too bad.
I imagine the list of keepers who are available & willing to come on the basis that they might be long term first choice… but also might not… isn’t exactly long. Arsenal must have seen something in him to sign him in the first place, and there’s no shame in not having displaced Ramsdale.
That's fair, although I think you can take more of a chance on a midfielder who is part of a pack competing for two or three births and is likely to be rotated throughout the season than you can on a keeper which remains as ever the most important position on the pitch.
I have seen Matt Turner play. His kicking is woeful. Hence why he is leaving Arsenal.
As for Roger Ibanez, the Saudi's have now bid. I am getting very narked off with all this nonsense.
Chicago: Man of many viewings.
