You have more outside your squad, than in it. We are almost certainly going to have to get a large number of those out, to have the eight that you propose in. Not least because of wage costs. It will be hard to get them out. Not least because of wage costs.

Some should be fairly easy to move on - Cook, Horvath, O'Brien, Surridge, Freuler will all be on reasonable money and/or have enough track record or promise to find new clubs without too much of a problem, I think. Toffolo is going to be suspended so there's nothing we can do about that. Simon's list is cheaper and very movable to foreign.

Shelvey and Dennis will be a problem because they're on big money and have baggage, but both have at least some degree of track record for producing attacking value at the top level. Our best bet with them is probably hoping a low end Premier League club (Sheff U, Luton) or a Champ club with parachute money is willing to take them on loan and get us off the hook for at least most of this year's wages, maybe with an obligation to buy if said club finds themselves in the Premier League next year.

Mighten I have no idea. Given he's got a US passport, the MLS might be the ideal option for him.

I think the last three are still young enough to not count towards the 25 so not part of my consideration.

Nope - all of my list were born before 2002, so would be part of the 25. The only players being seriously mentioned who are exempted on the basis of their age are Mighten and Aguilera.

Linked with Ian Maatsen - Chelsea left back (born 2002, so doesn't count for the 25). Spent last year at Burnley and the previous season at Coventry. 4 goals and 6 assists last season so probably quite attacking.

Had a look at the squad. I know it feels like we have a lot of players, but I'm not sure that's the case. Here are the players I think will definitely be part of the 25:

    GK: Hennessey
DF: Biancone, Worrall, Williams, Niakhate, Aurier, McKenna, Boly, Felipe
MF: Mangala, MGW, Kouyate, Yates, Danilo
    FW: Awoniyi, Johnson, Wood

That's 17 players who are here, healthy and pretty much a lock to be in the squad.

Healthy? Lock in? Biancone is coming back from a serious injury and looked bang average before it, Niakhate is definitely not healthy right this second with his dislocation, Wood is also coming back from serious injury. Kouyate and Hennessy are leaving.

Also, there is a report from a Brazilian sports media site that Scarpa has been told he's not in the team's plans and will likely go out on loan.

He's seemed to rebuff that on Instagram.

Scarpa is staying and will be a hero. Biancone looked far from average everytime I saw him. He will be hero (not necessarily for us but I think he is a good player).

Frueler might be going back to Atalanta. (or however you spell it). Dennis possibly to Leeds.

Neco can play left back. Richards might still.

We are short of forwards and midfielders who aren't called MGW, Yates and Danilo. (I like Mangala but will he get as much game time as the others?).

    Chicago: Not panicking yet.

Season kicks off in 24 days. It's really time we started getting our squad ready for the season, which means getting players in very soon.

Agree. Needs to start happening this week, it’s a bit concerning we have nothing done.

Double agree. Things need to start happening. As much on the out as the in.

I thought average was being kind from the times I saw him play

I would definitely be happier with skateboard in the squad. In fact I would be disappointed if he isn't.

No direct evidence that anyone we have can kick the ball better than him. Unless you count the boneheaded shelvey.

To be fair there's not much direct evidence he can either.

(I'm a fan, but he's barely played, so.)

I have seen him kick the ball better than anyone, arguably barring shelvey. Does that not count as evidence?

How many murder weapons do you need, before you are prepared to accept it's not accidental death?

Maybe bringing in the season's third recruitment team a month before the end of the season wasn't the best approach strategically?

I think it's fine - as we are going for more in demand players I would expect the process to take longer. We have a base squad (barring GK) and we are only adding so it shouldn't be too much of an issue to drip feed 4 or 5 players into the squad.
